The Targa Florio is an open road endurance automobile race held near Palermo, Sicily. Always one of the toughest competitions in Europe and considered to be one of the most grueling challenges for driver and car, the first Targa Florio held in 1906 covered 277 miles through multiple hairpin curves on treacherous mountain roads, at heights where severe changes in climate frequently occurred. By the mid-1920s, the Targa Florio had become one of Europe’s most important races, as neither the 24 Hours of Le Mans nor the Mille Miglia had been established yet. Since the inception of the automobile, there has been a fascination amongst their creators and devotees with pitting them against each other in a race. And over the years, many a watchmaker has dedicated their timepieces to the romance of this pastime. And now in honor of the Centennial Celebration of one of the first known organized auto races, Stührling Original enters the race with the Targa Classic! Even at first glance you will notice the sporty nature of this beautiful timepiece. It bears all the trappings of the Targa Series, from the bold face to the beautiful kris-cut bezel design. Like its predecessors, the Targa Classic was meant to draw attention, and with its high polished sub-dials and outer minutes track, it isn’t a difficult task at all. Like its name suggests, this is a more classic take on our Targa models, and as such, it comes on a very comfortable, genuine leather strap that is colored to match the execution. As an extra touch of detail, the strap includes contrast border stitches. The Targa Classic comes in a 47mm case design, and the screw down crown, which offers 100 meters water resistance, brings it up to an impressive 55mm!
